Using cleaner diesel for school buses improves student health
Using cleaner diesel for school buses improves student health (April 29, 2015 - Insidermedicine)
From Michigan - Converting school buses to run on cleaner diesel fuel may improve the students overall health and reduce absenteeism. Appearing in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, researchers followed 275 american grade school children before and after their buses were retrofitted to reduce particulates and nitrogen oxide. This change resulted in a 16% reduction in an inflammatory marker in the lungs of the children. Those children with asthma experienced a 20-30% reduction in this marker. There was also an 8% reduced risk of absenteeism when riding a bus using ultra low sulfur fuel.
