From Baltimore - Patients undergoing brain surgery are much more likely to die if they are uninsured, according to a report published in the Archives of Surgery. Researchers reviewed the medical records of over 28,000 patients who had undergone craniotomy for a brain tumour. They found that those who were uninsured were 2x more likely to die in the hospital following the procedure when compared to those who had private insurance. In patients with no illnesses other than the brain tumour, those who were uninsured were 3x increased risk of dying in the hospital.
