Pupillary light reflex may help diagnose glaucoma (July 31, 2013 - Insidermedicine) From Baltimore - According to research published in Ophthalmology, pupillary light reflex can help diagnose glaucoma. Researchers conducted a meta-analysis comprised of 11 studies and over 7,000 individuals. They examined whether measuring the pupils for a relative afferent pupillary defect (RAPD) was effective at diagnosing glaucoma. Results showed that PLR had a high sensitivity and specificity--suggesting the test can be helpful in diagnosing the disease
