Pneumococcal vaccine lowers risk of antibiotic resistant infections in children (October 15, 2014 - Insidermedicine)
From Atlanta - Children who get the pneumococcal vaccine are at reduced risk of antibiotic resistant infections, according to a report presented at IDWeek 2014. Researchers reviewed the effectiveness of the 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) that first became available in 2010. 85% of US children have received the recommended four doses of the vaccine. Among children under 5, the vaccine lowered the incidence of antibiotic-resistant invasive pneumococcal disease by 62%.
