NSAIDs linked to atrial fibrillation risk among older adults
NSAIDs linked to atrial fibrillation risk among older adults (April 9, 2014 - Insidermedicine) From the Netherlands - A new report published in BMJ Open finds that painkillers may raise risk of atrial fibrillation among older adults. Researchers studied over 8,400 individuals taking part in a long term study. Participants were aged 55 and older and followed since 1990. After accounting for risk factors, results showed that current use of NSAIDs raised risk of atrial fibrillation by 76%. Recent use (within the previous 30 days) raised risk by 84%.
