Most diabetes trials focus on treatment rather than prevention

(April 5, 2013 - Insidermedicine)

From North Carolina – A majority of diabetes trials focus on treatment instead of prevention, according to a report published in Diabetologia. Researchers reviewed over 2,400 interventional trials, most of which were small to medium sized, typically enrolling under 500 participants. They found that 75% of the trials were focused on drug therapy, while only 10% focused on prevention with behavioural or lifestyle changes. Only 4% of the trials were targeted towards people under the age of 18, and less than 1% targeted individuals over the age of 65.
