More fibre in the diet may lower diabetes risk (May 28, 2015 - Insidermedicine) From Norway - According to research published in Diabetologia, adding fibre to the diet may lower risk of developing diabetes. Researchers studied over 12,000 type 2 diabetes patients and over 16,000 controls. Participants were divided into four groups depending on their fibre intake and were followed for an average of 11 years. Results showed that those with the highest fibre intake (over 26 g/day) were are 18% reduced risk of developing diabetes compared to those consuming less than 19g a day
