Men and women in the military more likely to have experience adverse childhood events (July 24, 2014 - Insidermedicine) From Pittsburgh - Men and women in the military are more likely to have suffered adverse childhood experiences, according to a report published in JAMA Psychiatry. Researchers studied over 60,000 people , examining participants for prevalence of adverse childhood experiences. Of this sample, 12.7% reported serving in the military. Results showed that both men and women who reported military services were more likely than those without service to have experience an adverse childhood event, an aspect that suggests the military may be a form of escape for some individuals
