Iron-rich diet may ward off PMS

(March 1, 2013 - Insidermedicine)

From Boston – Women who eat an iron-rich diet may be less likely to suffer PMS, according to a report published in the American Journal of Epidmeiology. Researchers studied the mineral intake of nearly 3,000 women, all of whom were free from PMS at the outset of the study. Participants were followed for 10 years, frequently filling out food questionnaires. Results showed that women who consumed the most non-heme iron in their diet—the type found mainly in plant foods and supplements—were at 30-40% reduced risk of PMS.
