Women who smoke are more likely to get colon cancer than men who smoke

From Norway - Women smokers are more likely to get colon cancer than men, according to a report published in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention. Researchers studied a cohort of over 600,000 men and women, who had completed surveys regarding their smoking habits, activity levels and other lifestyle factors. Participants were followed for an average of 14 years. Over the course of the study, there were nearly 4,000 cases of colon cancer. Researchers found that female smokers were at 19% increased risk of the disease, while male smokers were at 8% increased risk.
