In this Insidermedicine week in review we review recent research published in JAMA that links serious paralysis and respiratory failure to the injection of pure botulinum rather than botox. In another story, marathon runners have a higher risk of having atypical pigmented skin lesions that are a known risk factor for the development of melanoma. Runners need to cover up or use sun screen. In the final story, a randomized clinical trial showed that back surgery is not clearly better that conservative treatment for the management of slipped disc.
