Vision loss raises risk of death in older adults (August 25, 2014 - Insidermedicine) From Indiana - Vision loss greatly affects daily function in turn raising risk of death in older adults, according to a report published in JAMA Ophthalmology. Researchers studied data from the Salisbury Eye Evaluation, examining over 2,500  adults aged 65-84 years. Participants were followed for 8 years. Results showed that a decline in visual acuity over the time period resulted in more difficulties performing instrumental activities of daily living. Those who had increasing difficulty performing these activities had a 3% greater mortality risk annually and 31% increased risk of death during the entire study period.
