(March 4, 2013 - Insidermedicine)

From Boston - A new report published in Health Affairs finds that the American public is supportive of government action aimed at fighting obesity and non-communicable diseases such as diabetes. Researchers conducted an online survey of nearly 2,000 US adults. Participants were asked questions regarding their support for several public health policies and why. Among these questions, there were 7 specific questions regarding chronic diseases and 14 strategies aimed at addressing them. Results showed that between 70-90% of participants supported government action aimed at the following diseases and lifestyle factors: obesity, tobacco use, diabetes, alcohol consumption, heart disease, and cancer.
