Smoke, pollution exposure during pregnancy linked to childhood obesity (November 13, 2014 - Insidermedicine) From California - A new report published in Environmental Health Perspectives links both tobacco smoke and air pollution to childhood obesity. Researchers studied over 3,000 children, examining participant's exposure to tobacco smoke, secondhand smoke and roadway air pollution during their mother's pregnancy. Children were followed through high school graduation to age 8. Results showed that children exposed to both smoke and roadway air pollution demonstrated increased weight gain in adolescence--gains that were not seen in those who were similarly exposed
