Sleep apnea may be a risk factor for floppy eyelid syndrome

(April 17, 2013 - Insidermedicine)

From Spain - A new report published in the British Journal of Ophthalmology finds that sleep apnea may be a risk factor for floppy eyelid syndrome. Researchers studied over 100 patients admitted to the hospital for obstructive sleep apnea, as well as 45 patients diagnosed with FES. Results showed that patients diagnosed with sleep apnea were much more likely to have eyelid hyperlaxity than those without sleep apnea. As well, 85% of the patients with floppy eyelid syndrome were diagnosed with sleep apnea, and 65% were diagnosed with severe sleep apnea
