Saliva gland may help diagnose Parkison

(January 11, 2013 - Insidermedicine)

From Arizona– A new report presented at the annual meeting for the American Academy of Neurology finds that a saliva gland test may be able to diagnose Parkinson’s disease. Researchers examined two saliva glands for the presence of an abnormal Parkison’s protein in 15 Parkinson’s patients who had the disease for an average of 12 years. They found the protein in samples of 82% of the participants—suggesting the technique may be useful as a possible diagnostic tool.
