Reduced ability to identify smells may indicate risk of death
Reduced ability to identify smells may indicate risk of death (October 2, 2014 - Insidermedicine) From Chicago - A new report published in PLOS ONE finds that a reduced ability to identify scents may indicate risk of 5 year mortality. Researchers studied over 3,000 individuals taking part in a long term study. Participants were between 57-85 years of age, and were followed for five years. Results showed that those with greater smell loss were at significant increased risk dying in the 5 year study period--even when taking into account risk factors.
