From Denmark - Women who use RU-486 to terminate a pregnancy are at no higher risk for pregnancy problems later in life. The results, based on a study of over 11,000 women, show that women who terminate their pregnancy medically face no higher risk of tubal pregnancy or miscarriages than those who underwent a surgical procedure.

From Maryland - Two widely prescribed diabetes medicines will now carry a stronger safety warning on their labels.  The labels of Avandia and Actos will now "black box" their increased risk of heart failure. The emerging issue of increased risk for heart attack is still under review.

From Washington - A chemical that acts as a flame retardant may be making cats sick. A study has noted high levels of PBDEs in cats with overactive thyroids.  The chemical is used in televisions, carpeting, furniture and mattresses to prevent fires. Little research exists on the effects of PBDEs on humans.

And finally from Australia - The drug, Prexige, has been pulled from Australia over safety concerns. The medicine has been linked to liver failure and a couple of deaths.  Patients taking the medicine are advised to stop taking it and throw away remaining tabets.
