Plant based diet lowers risk of heart disease and stroke (March 11, 2015 - Insidermedicine) From London - A new report presented at the AHA EPI/Lifestyle 2015 meeting finds that a diet high in plant-based foods lower risk of heart disease and stroke. Researchers examined the lifestyle and eating habits of over 450,000 individuals. Participants were between 35 and 70 years old and followed for an average of 12 years. Results showed that those who ate the most pro-vegetarian diets (comprised of 70% of food from plant sources) were at 20% reduced risk of death from heart disease, when compared to those who at the least vegetarian diets
