Optic nerve may help identify risk of stroke patient dying (February 13, 2015 - Insidermedicine)
From Florida - The optic nerve may help predict a stroke patient's risk of dying, according to a report presented at the International Stroke Conference. Researchers studied 86 patients who had a stroke and were suspected of having pressure buildup in their skull. Researchers then used ocular ultrasound to measure the sheath encasing the optic nerve. Results showed that for every millimetre bigger the nerve sheath diameter was, a patients risk of death within 6 months increased 4x
