New guidelines recommend no PSA screening
New guidelines recommend no PSA screening (October 28, 2014 - Insidermedicine) From Calgary - New prostate cancer guidelines from Canada recommend not using the PSA test, according to research published in CMAJ. Researchers from the Canadian Task Force on Preventive Health Care recommend that men under 55 and over 70 should not undergo the PSA test, as their is a lack of clear evidence that this screening reduces mortality and in linked with increased risk of harm. The task force also recommends that men between 55-69 should not be screened with the test, though acknowledges that men may value the small potential risk reduction with the PSA test and should discuss the risks and benefits with their physician.
