(January 14, 2013 - Insidermedicine)
From Utah – A new report published in PLOS ONE identifies 24 new gene variants associated with autism. Scientists studied 55 individuals from families with multiple members with autism spectrum disorder. Results of a custom DNA microarray analysis confirmed several previously published genetic variants associated with the disease, and also several previously unknown variants. These new markers could help provide a genetic diagnosis in as many as 12% of children with ASD.
