Mushrooms contain as much vitamin D as supplements

(April 25, 2013 - Insidermedicine)From Boston – Mushrooms may boost vitamin D levels as much as supplements, according to a report published in Dermato-Endocrinology. Researchers randomized 30 healthy adults to take supplements containing 2,000 IU of vitamin D2, 2,000 IU of vitamin D3, or 2,000 IU of a mushroom powder that contained vitamin D2. Participants took these supplements daily for 12 weeks. At the end of the study period, the mushroom group had similar vitamin D levels to both supplement groups.
