Metformin may lower risk of glaucoma
Metformin may lower risk of glaucoma (May 29, 2015 - Insidermedicine) From Michigan - The diabetes drug metformin may lower risk of developing glaucoma, according to a report published in JAMA Ophthalmology. Researchers studied data on over 150,000 diabetes patients taken from a large managed care network from 2001-2010. Of these, nearly 6,000 developed open-angle glaucoma. Results showed that those who were prescribed the highest amount of metformin over the study period were 25% less likely to develop open-angle glaucoma when compared to those who didn’t take the drug at all.
