Living close to a highway may raise risk of high blood pressure (October 2, 2014 - Insidermedicine) From Rhode Island - Living close to a major roadway raises risk of high blood pressure, according to a report published in the Journal of the American Heart Association. Researchers studied data on over 5,400 post-menopausal women taking part in a long term study. Researchers examined participant's distance to the highway as well as their prevalence of hypertension. Results showed that women who lived within 100 meters of the highway had a 22% increased risk of high blood pressure when compared to those who lived at least 1,000 meters away.
