Iron deficiency causing sticky blood linked to stroke risk (February 20, 2014 - Insidermedicine) From London - Iron deficiency may raise risk of stroke due to sticky blood, according to a report published in PLOS ONE. Researchers studied nearly 500 patients who had a condition known as pulmonary arteriovenous malformations--or, abnormal blood vessels in the lungs. Results showed that even those who had moderately low iron levels were at 2x increased risk of stroke when compared with those with normal iron levels.
