From Ottawa

Over 100 cases of Ricketts- or bending of the bones due to Vitamin D deficiency- has been reported in Canada over a 2-year period. Ricketts can be prevented by adequate sun exposure and getting vitamin D in the diet.

From Washington

According to the FDA, if you have any packages of the popular kids snack- Veggie Booty – they should be thrown out. At least 52 cases of bloody diarrhea from salmonella have been linked to this treat.

From Oregon

Working in a bar is hazardous to your health. Bartenders and waitresses were found to have very high levels of NNK- a potent carcinogen- in their urine. Levels of NNK rose by 6% for every hour worked.

And Finally from Geneva

According to the WHO, long haul flights doubles the risk for potentially life-threatening blood clots. While only 1 in 6000 passengers develop blood clots, getting up and walking and drinking water can help prevent this condition.

For Insidermedicine in 60, I’m Dr. Susan Sharma.
