Hospital greatly reduces risk of post heart surgery infections
Hospital greatly reduces risk of post heart surgery infections (August 7, 2014 - Insidermedicine) From Vancouver - In a case study presented at the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program National Conference, Vancouver General Hospital reduced the rate of surgical site infections following heart procedures from 7% down to 1.6%. Among the improvements made were careful administration of prophylactic antibiotics, new wound dressings, and actively warming patients after being taken off cardiac bypass machines. Not only does this reduction improve the quality of care, but it is also estimated to save the hospital $300,000 a year.
