High protein diet in middle age linked to higher risk of death (March 4, 2014 - Insidermedicine) From California - High protein diet during middle age greatly raises risk of death, according to a report published in Cell Metabolism. Researchers studied over 6,300 adults over the age of 50. They found that individuals who ate a high protein diet--particularly high amounts of meat, milk and cheese--were 74% more likely to die of any cause during the study period when compared to those with low protein intake. High protein diet was also linked to a 4x increased risk of death from cancer.
