High dose flu vaccine may be more effective among elderly (August 14, 2014 - Insidermedicine) From Tennessee - A high dose flu vaccine may be more effective in the elderly, according to a report published in the NEJM. Researchers studied over 31,000 individuals over the age of 65. Participants were followed during 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 flu seasons, and researchers compared the effectiveness of high-dose flu vaccine to standard-dose. Results showed that the high-dose vaccine was 24% more effective in protecting the elderly against influenza illness.
