High calcium intake linked to significant increased risk of death in women

(February 12, 2013 - Insidermedicine)

From Sweden - A new report published in the BMJ finds that women with a high calcium rate are at significant increased risk of cardiovascular death. Researcher studied over 60,000 women for an average of 19 years. Women were surveyed regarding their lifestyle habits, education level and menopausal status. Researchers found that rates of all-cause, cardiovascular and heart disease mortality were highest among women with elevated levels of calcium intake. Specifically, those who consumed more that 1400 mg/day had more than 2x increased risk of dying from cardiovascular causes.
