From Chicago – According to research published in Circulation, a heart-healthy lifestyle can also reduce risk of cancer. Researchers studied over 13,000 white and African-American men and women, following the participants since 1987. Nearly 3,000 participants developed cancer. Researchers found that individuals who adhered to 6 of the AHA’s ‘Life’s Simple 7’—being physically active, keeping a health weight, eating a healthy diet, maintaining healthy cholesterol levels, keeping blood pressure down, regulating blood sugar levels and not smoking— were at 51% reduced risk of cancer when compared to those who adhered to none of the tenets at all. Those who followed 4 of the tenets were at 33% reduced risk, while those who met 1 or 2 were at 21% reduced risk
