Heart disease may lead to cognitive impairment

(January 28, 2013 - Insidermedicine)

From Minnesota - Heart disease raises risk of cognitive impairment, according to a report published in JAMA Neurology. Researchers studied nearly 2,800 individuals aged 70-89, over 1,400 of whom were free of cognitive impairment at the outset of the study. After 15 months of  follow-up, researchers found that those with heart disease were significantly more likely to develop mild cognitive impairment than those without the condition. This association was especially strong among women.
