From Houston - Having a pet may reduce risk of heart disease, according to a report published in Circulation. Researchers studied over 5,000 adults. They found that dog owners, in particular, were 54% more likely to get their recommended level of physical activity at were at reduced risk of heart disease. Owning pets was also associated with lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels. The authors stress that pet ownership probably does not directly lower risk of heart disease, but rather, likely means that having a pet leads to a healthier lifestyle.
