Smokers who had 2 abnormal copies of the gene had an 80% raised risk of cancer, and those who had 1 abnormal copy had a 28% raised risk. Another paper demonstrated that those with mutations were more likely to become addicted to nicotine.

From Montreal - Being born prematurely may raise the risk of developing autism. Researchers examined 91 premature babies, who were evaluated for early signs of autism once they were born. Autism-like behavior was seen in 25% of patients, but because many of the children were too young to be formally diagnosed, the study is ongoing and the children will be formally assessed as they get older.
