Folic acid supplementation can reduce stroke risk in hypertension patients (March 20, 2015 - Insidermedicine) From China - A new report published in JAMA finds that folic acid supplementation can reduce risk of stroke in people with high blood pressure. Researchers studied over 20,000 hypertension patients with no history of stroke or heart attack. Participants were randomized to receive daily folic acid supplementation and enalapril, or just enalapril alone. Participants were followed for 4.5 years. Results showed that those taking the folic acid had a 21% relative reduced risk of stroke.
