Extract from unroasted coffee beans may help control blood sugar

From Pennsylvania – A substance found in unroasted coffee beans helps regulate blood sugar levels, according to a report presented at the annual meeting of the American Chemical Society. Researchers studied 56 men and women with normal blood sugar levels, measuring participant’s response to sugar with a glucose tolerance test. Participants then received increasing doses of chlorogenic acids—an extract from green coffee beans that is also available as a supplement. After administering follow-up glucose tolerance tests, researchers found that every dose of the extract resulted in a significant reduction in participant’s blood sugar levels
