Exercise may help slow retinal degeneration
Exercise may help slow retinal degeneration (February 14, 2014 - Insidermedicine) From Atlanta - Exercise may inhibit the progression of retinal degeneration, according to a report published in the Journal of Neuroscience. Researchers studied a mouse model, having the rodents exercise for an hour a day for five days a week for 2 weeks. All of the subjects were then exposed to a toxic bright light that simulates retinal degeneration, then continued their exercise routine for two more weeks. Other mice spent time the time on a stationary treadmill. Results showed that the rodents that exercised lost only half of the photoreceptor cells as the rodents who remained stationary.
