Epilepsy may hasten onset of Alzheimer's
Epilepsy may hasten onset of Alzheimer (July 15, 2013 - Insidermedicine) From California - Seizures late in life may be an indicator of Alzheimer's disease, according to a report published in JAMA Neurology. Researchers studied 54 epilepsy patients who had been diagnosed with either amnestic mild cognitive impairment or Alzheimer's disease, as well as a group of controls. Results showed that epilepsy patients with cognitive impairment presented with symptoms of cognitive decline nearly 7 years earlier than those with cognitive impairment who did not have epilepsy. Patients with epilepsy and Alzheimer's disease presented 5.5 years earlier than patients without epilepsy.
