Doing cardio in young adulthood protects cognitive abilities in middle age
Doing cardio in young adulthood protects cognitive abilities in middle age (April 3, 2014 - Insidermedicine) From Minnesota - Cardio activities in young adulthood may help preserve cognitive skills in middle age, according to a report published in Neurology. Researchers studied nearly 3,000 healthy individuals with an average age of 25 years. Participants underwent exercise stress tests at the outset of the study and again 20 years later, as well as cognitive tests after 25 years. Results showed that those who had the lowest decline in the time completed on the treadmill over 20 years also performed better on cognitive tests than those with the biggest decline.
