Diagnosis of childhood ADHD has risen dramatically in the past 10 years

From California – Diagnosis of childhood ADHD has soared over the past 10 years, according to a report published in JAMA Pediatrics. Researchers studied the health records of nearly 1,000,000 children aged 5-11 years. Records were taken from 2001-2010. Results showed that newly diagnosed cases of ADHD rose a relative 24%. Black children, specifically, demonstrated a 70% relative increase in new diagnoses. Hispanic children had a 60% relative increase and white children showed a 30% relative increase. Boys were 3x more likely to diagnosed than girls.
