(January 24, 2013 - Insidermedicine)

From Washington - According to research published in the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, diabetic patients with kidney disease are at significant increased risk of death. Researchers studied the 10-year mortality rates in over 15,000 US adults, just over 9% of those who had kidney disease without diabetes, and 42% who had kidney disease with diabetes. Results showed that people without kidney disease or diabetes had a 10-year mortality rate of 7.7%. Those with diabetes but without kidney disease had a 10-year mortality rate of 11.5%, and those with both diabetes and kidney disease had a rate of 31%
