AMD is still the leading cause of vision loss among those 65 and older

(April 3, 2013 - Insidermedicine)

From Wisconsin - Age-related macular degeneration is the leading cause of vision loss in people over the age of 65, according to a report published in Ophthalmology. Researchers studied 5,000 individuals for 20 years, monitoring vision loss and eye disease in the patients. They found that, though there has been great progress in sight-saving drugs as well as in disease prevention, AMD is still the leading cause of vision loss in those over the age of 65. AMD causes severe vision loss in nearly 15% of all Americans over the age of 85.
