June 27, 2007 (Insidermedicine) From Chicago- The AMA is asking that federal and state agencies investigate possible conflicts of interest created by the 200 or more store-based health clinics that operate in the US. The AMA has concerns over quality of care and conflict of interest as the clinics may increase prescriptions.
From London- A British biotech company has created a form of artificial skin that could make skin grafts a thing of the past. While still preliminary, research shows that the artificial skin remained viable after 28 days.
From Boston- Researchers from MIT were able to reverse autism-like behavior in mice. By inhibiting a specific enzyme, mice who had a genetic mutation no longer exhibited autistic behavior.
And finally from Washington- After 10 years in the making, the FDA has given its recommendations to the dietary supplement industry. The ruling will ensure proper manufacturing, labeling and monitoring for complication from taking the supplements
